Tara Puja – The Divine Rescue of Maa Tara, the Second Mahavidya
Conducted by Pandit Tapan Kumar Panda |
Who is Goddess Tara?
Maa Tara is the second Mahavidya among the Dasa Mahavidyas in the Shakta tradition. She is the goddess of compassion, guidance, and salvation, often depicted as dark-skinned like Kali, but filled with nurturing power and maternal grace. The word ‘Tara’ means “the one who ferries across” – the divine force that saves devotees from danger, fear, sorrow, and even death.
Tara is known as the protectress of the weak, the awakener of wisdom, and the mother of liberation (moksha). She embodies the balance of ferocity and motherly kindness, rescuing her devotees from emotional, material, and spiritual storms.
Why Should You Perform Tara Puja?
Tara Puja is not just a ritual—it is an emergency call to the cosmic mother who answers in the darkest hour. You should perform Tara Puja when:
• You are facing extreme uncertainty, fear, or sudden losses
• You or a loved one is in danger of life, accident, or terminal illness
• You are suffering from mental agony, insomnia, trauma, or grief
• You need divine wisdom, clarity of mind, and spiritual awakening
• You are caught in addictions, depression, or emotional blockages
• You want protection during travel, surgery, or risky endeavours
• You are going through deep spiritual transformation or loss of identity
Tara is the mother who nurses back the broken soul. Her puja brings a healing vibration that soothes, protects, and illuminates.
How is Tara Puja Performed?
At Siddhavaani.com, Pandit Tapan Kumar Panda ji performs Tara Puja according to authentic Tantric and Vedic practices, ensuring safety, sanctity, and effectiveness. The puja follows this spiritually rich sequence:
Sankalpa (Spiritual Vow)
Your name, gotra, and intention are invoked before the Divine Mother. Your purpose—be it healing, protection, or liberation—is clearly declared.
Tara Yantra and Kalasha Sthapana
The sacred Tara Yantra is installed and energised along with a copper pot (Kalasha) filled with holy water, symbolising the Devi’s presence.
Mantra Japa
Pandit ji chants the Tara Beej Mantra:
“ॐ ह्रीं स्त्रीं हूँ फट्”
or
“ॐ तारायै नमः”
– repeated in multiple malas (108, 1008 or more) as per the level of the puja and the devotee’s need.
Homam (Fire Ritual)
Tara Homam is performed using blue lotus petals, sesame seeds, camphor, and guggul. The sacred fire absorbs negativity and radiates healing to the devotee and their family.
Nyasa, Kavacha and Mudra Prayoga
Advanced tantric techniques are used for invoking energy into specific parts of the body and subtle mind – bringing clarity, calm, and control.
Stotra Path and Aarti
Tara Kavacham, Ashtottara (108 names), and Tara Stotram are recited. Finally, Aarti is offered with incense, flowers, and ghee lamps.
Prasad and Blessings
You receive sacred Prasad, protective raksha thread, energized blue cloth, and a Tara Yantra for your altar. A mantra japa guideline may also be shared for personal chanting.
When Should Tara Puja Be Performed?
Tara Puja is most effective when performed on:
• Amavasya (New Moon Night) – for protection, rebirth, and moksha
• Purnima (Full Moon) – for grace, healing, and spiritual growth
• Tara Jayanti – the auspicious day dedicated to Goddess Tara
• During midnight or early Brahma Muhurat – for mantra siddhi
